On Jan. 20, 2026, PowerGen International will launch in San Antonio, Texas, and it goes through Jan. 22. It is a top event in the power generation industry, and can serve as an ideal place to introduce new innovative solutions for a sustainable future. We’re excited to inform you that American Katerra, LLC – a subsidiary of Yamaguchi Heavy Industries, Ltd. – will be part of this event, we’re all committed to decarbonizing and embracing green technology. As part of their delegation of five Japanese innovative infrastructure and cleantech companies, we announced through our blog that we are excited to participate in this distinguished event back in October 2025. We are all joining under the Tokyo Metropolitan Small and Medium Enterprise Support Corporation‘s booth. For the details, check out the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s announcement.

Huge Power Demands in the Future
Before building on the growth that we are seeing in Texas data centers as we prepare for PowerGen, we are excited to call attention to the exponential growth happening and the massive energy demand driven by them, and the requirement to build a solution infrastructure we like ours. Central to this explosion is Texas, where data centers are projected to use 9.7 GW of utility power in 2025, compared to less than 8 GW in 2024, driven largely by AI, cloud computing and crypto-mining activity. ERCOT power demand in the region will balloon by 14% through 2026, with data centers on the hook for most of that growth. In the longer term, ERCOT estimates that overall data center demand could reach roughly 77,965 MW by 2030, nearly half of the state’s anticipated net power demand increase of 70% from 87 GW in 2025 to 145 GW by 2031. This rapid change in the grid is stressing the current state of affairs as large load interconnection requests have soared from 56 GW to 205 GW in recent months, prompting measures such as Senate Bill 6 to ensure infrastructure upgrades are reliable and cost-shareable. National growth in commercial electricity sales this year by 40% due to the data center boom can grow to 4.5% in 2026, and U.S. demand is projected to hit 106 GW by 2035.
Softbank and Open AI Invest in SB Energy
A good example of this is Stargate, a massive AI supercomputer. OpenAI recently signed a deal with SoftBank Group — $1 billion investment over three years for SB Energy to boost data center development and operations — with $500 million from each partner. OpenAI announced plans to build with SB Energy to run a 1.2 GW data center in Milam County, Texas, as an expansion of Stargate into a larger collaboration with Oracle. SB Energy, which began as a renewable energy company backed by SoftBank, is shifting its focus to owning data centers and managing them, mirroring the sector’s move toward sustainable power sources, amid surging demand.
Expecting Huge Demands for Steels
As we continue to engage with this space, American Katerra President Yamaguchi paid a visit to the construction site of “Stargate,” a data center, in Abilene, Texas on a few recent days. The site is taking off in a very public point that the team saw, a perfect representation of the data center boom fueled through a rise in demand for AI and the cloud. This visit serves as Texas’s contribution to global infrastructure trends and shows Texas can leverage in this massive build for new steel solutions.
American Katerra Booth Features
From there, PowerGen brings you to focus on our ground-breaking Green Carbon Steel™ project. Green Carbon Steel™ is our concept for steel fabrication with the potential to vastly decrease CO₂ emissions throughout the whole value chain, ultimately with the whole steel production and distribution plant fully decarbonized — an ideal step towards sustainability, making it perfect for energy-hungry projects such as data centers.
Visitors to our display will also be able to see details of all service offerings we provide to back sustainable projects:
- Cost Estimation Consultancy: Accurate and consistent construction cost analysis that is backed up by Building Information Modeling (BIM) to predict your future budgets.
- Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Calculation Services: We’ve got a wide range of our unique experts providing detailed analyses of sector specific carbon footprints that help you reach your sustainability goal, meet government regulations and meet the increasingly eco-conscious consumer.
- Supply Chain Management with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA): We incorporate LCA and SCM in an innovative way in the steel-factory sector so that it is environmentally safe.
We Want to See Many of You!
We look forward to the 2028 opening of our Green Carbon Steel Factory here in San Antonio, Texas—entering our future decarbonization world amid the central infrastructure of the Lone Star State.
Our parent company is Yamaguchi Heavy Industries, Ltd., with over 75 years of experience established in 1949 and the bedrock of American Katerra’s mission. We are Japan’s leading building and infrastructure fabricator of choice, expanding accuracy and innovation to the U.S. market.
If you’re with PowerGen come into the booth of Tokyo Metropolitan Small and Medium Enterprise Support Corporation to schedule an interaction with our team, we would love to speak about how our tools can drive the greening of the future for your next project.
