Green Human Capital™
Our People Strategy
At American Katerra, people are not a line item; they are the engine behind everything we build. Green Human Capital™ is our approach to investing in them, developing them, and measuring it, reported in line with ISO 30414, the international standard for human capital. It is the human side of “Build for Dreams,” and a core pillar of our long-term Purpose Management 2050 strategy.
What Green Human Capital™ means
Green Human Capital™ treats our workforce the way we treat sustainability: as something to invest in for the long term, not spend down. It links our people strategy directly to our business goals, and it reports on that strategy with the discipline of a recognized standard. In our shared-value model, it is the human pillar, sitting alongside our digital and green initiatives.
Green Human Capital™ is a trademark of American Katerra, LLC.
Four priorities
Diversity and inclusion
A workplace where diverse backgrounds and perspectives are valued and essential to our success.
Talent recruitment and development
Attracting and cultivating the skills we need, from specialized technical expertise to leadership.
Flexible ways of working
Modern workstyles that support productivity, collaboration, and work-life balance.
Employee wellbeing
A healthy, safe, and supportive environment where people can thrive personally and professionally.
A strategy tied to the business
We start from our business plan and define the talent portfolio it requires, then build it through recruitment, development, communication, and wellbeing, all on a data-driven HR backbone. The goal is simple: the right people, in an environment where they can do their best work, aligned to where the company is going.
Built on a data-driven HR backbone
That backbone is concrete. We run human capital on ADP Workforce Now, a cloud-based system that gives every employee real-time access to pay, tax forms, and accrued time off, and keeps our reporting aligned with Texas and federal labor law. Accurate working-time and leave records feed the efficiency and safety reporting behind our ISO 30414 numbers, so decisions about people rest on data.
Wellbeing, in practice
Wellbeing here is a set of programs we run today. Health coverage comes through Nippon Life Benefits on the Aetna International network, paired with a Morgan Stanley 401(k) for long-term financial security, alongside protections such as FMLA and paid overtime. Day to day, employees have no-cost access to the Centre Fit gym in our building, monthly Flow Yoga along the San Antonio River Walk, running clubs, and group fitness, plus seasonal produce markets and local music and cultural events. We call this our Happiness for Everyone safety net: physical, financial, and social support in one ecosystem.
Growing the next generation
Building an AI-native fabricator means building the skills to run it. We are developing a team of engineers and detailers in San Antonio, trained on industry-standard tools, and we partner with local universities such as UTSA, Trinity University, and Texas A&M San Antonio to cultivate the next generation of sustainable-steel talent.
That training is specific. Our engineers and detailers build deep expertise in BIM modeling and management on Tekla by Trimble, working to ISO 19650 information standards. Beyond our own team, we are designing internships and residencies in low-carbon steel fabrication, meeting students through job fairs and talks, and broadening our recruitment network across leading Texas and U.S. universities, so the next generation of green steel innovators has a way in.
Part of a bigger commitment
The “green” in Green Human Capital™ is deliberate. Investing in people is inseparable from our work on Green Carbon Steel™ and green information modeling: the same long-term, sustainable thinking, applied to the team that makes it real.
