Job Summary
We are seeking a versatile and motivated Civil Engineer / CAD Design Specialist to join our innovative team. This is a unique opportunity for a professional who thrives in a multi-functional environment; unlike traditional engineering roles, this position offers direct involvement across diverse projects, integrating advanced design with real-world application.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design and Drafting:
- Develop detailed 2D and 3D models using specialized software, including Tekla Structures and other BIM-related tools.
- Create comprehensive engineering drawings, plans, and specifications for diverse civil and structural projects.
- Optimize designs for both structural integrity and ease of manufacturing/assembly.
2. Project Development
- Actively participate in areas outside conventional civil engineering, including basic structural analysis, supply chain coordination, and hands-on site support.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (legal, finance, and operations) to ensure engineering designs align with broader business objectives.
- Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies to inform real-time design adjustments.
3. Sustainability Integration
- Incorporate Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) principles into project designs to enhance environmental performance.
- Work closely with the team to ensure all designs contribute directly to our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction targets.
- Evaluate the environmental impact of material choices and construction methods.
4. Cost Estimation Support
- Provide accurate quantity take-offs and assist in developing cost estimates derived from BIM models.
- Ensure designs are optimized for cost-effectiveness without compromising safety or quality standards.
Qualifications and Skills
Core Requirements
- Associate’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a related technical field.
- Proficiency in 2D/3D modeling software.
- Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- 18+ years of age and authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with BIM processes and tools.
- Understanding of sustainable design principles and LCA methodologies.
- Experience with cost estimation tools and methodologies.
- Knowledge of GHG calculation methods and sustainability reporting.
- Experience with steel and concrete design specifications (AISC, ACI).
Compensation, Hours, & Benefits
Salary Based on Experience
- $40,000 – $60,000
Working Hours
- Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (including a one-hour meal break).
- As a non-exempt position, all hours worked exceeding 40 per week are compensated at 1.5 times the hourly rate.
- Occasional travel and international coordination may require flexible hours and overtime based on project necessity.
