American Katerra’s Commitment to Sustainability by Kerrville’s Flooding

by | 08-01-2025 | News

We are shocked to hear of the tragic and destructive flash flood that occurred in Kerrville, Texas, on July 4, 2025. “We will remember this tragedy for generations to come, and our hearts will also remember the innocent lives of more than 100 people, especially children, who died or were never found.” To the families and friends of the victims, including those from Camp Mystic and the men and women of Kerr County, we simply pray at this time. You are in our thoughts, and we support you as the community starts the long process of recovery.

Wherefore, on July 31, 2025, American Katerra’s executive staff — led by such executives as President Yamaguchi, Vice President Tsujimoto, and Mr. Seki, our local marketer, — made their way to Kerrville in solidarity with our community in mourning. While there, American Katerra gave the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country a $10,000 donation to help support flood relief and recovery in Kerr County. This donation provides support to help rebuild lives and communities following climate-related disasters, consistent with our ongoing efforts to provide aid to the world’s most affected regions.

Climate Change and Increasing Rainfall

The devastating flooding in Kerrville is a sobering reminder of the increased effects of climate disruption. Global warming increases rainfall about 7 percent every 1°C of warming due to the fact that warmer air holds more water vapor, bringing more intense downpours more often. This complements the seminal studies by Dr. Syukuro Manabe, a 2021 Nobel Prize laureate in Physics, who conducted original research in the 1960s as the scientific bedrock of today’s climate modeling. Dr. Manabe’s models showed that elevated carbon dioxide levels lead to global warming, and they forecast more severe weather, including the torrential rains that caused the Guadalupe River to flood. His work makes clear the dire necessity of industries to develop sustainable practices to curb environmental destruction and increase resilience to climate-driven disasters.

American Katerra’s Vision for Sustainable Steel Production

Greenhouse Gas Emission

American Katerra looks to technological breakthroughs, such as those made by Dr. Manabe, to tackle these issues with ingenuity and stewardship. Our goal is to revolutionize steel fabrication with our Green Carbon Steel and second-generation technologies that deliver environmental sustainability with no compromise on quality or speed of delivery.

The steel industry is one of the leading contributors to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with 7–9%. The conventional processes are mainly dependent on coal and produce a large amount of CO2 in the iron ore reduction. At American Katerra, the low-carbon and carbon-free steel fabricator, we are leading the charge for next-generation steel fabrication using cutting-edge technologies like AI, IoT, and digital twin platforms to maximally utilize resources and reduce emissions. Our focus on green steel products, as well as recycled materials and energy-friendly logistics, is in keeping with global efforts to decarbonize the steel industry.

Creating a Self-sustainable Future based on Proven Practices

With decades of experience, American Katerra is ready to bring the steel industry to the next level through environmental responsibility. We are focused on optimizing our operations and adopting low-carbon steel products, and hoping to leave a legacy of value for our customers, our communities, and our planet, in the tradition of scientists like Dr. Manabe who had warned us of climate impacts decades ago.

The Kerrville tragedy is an awful reminder of why we must hurry. We mourn the lives lost and support those they leave behind, but we are also more resolved than ever to build a sustainable future. The American Katerra vision isn’t just to make steel – it’s to imagine a better future, to create jobs, and the knowledge that our industry will help provide a healthier planet for countless generations to come.
