The Difference Between Katerra and American Katerra, LLC

Thank you for your interest in American Katerra, LLC.

We’ve received many questions about our relationship with the former Katerra (Katerra Inc.) in the U.S. We would like to clarify this matter.

The former Katerra and American Katerra, LLC are two completely separate companies, with no capital ties or business succession.

Many people likely know the former Katerra as the prefabricated building startup that SoftBank heavily invested in before it eventually went bankrupt. We have immense respect for their original vision of transforming an inefficient industry.

However, we do not own any of the former Katerra’s assets. Instead, we have learned from their mistakes and built a completely new business model, born from our partnership with the SoftBank Group.

Our New Vision: The "Re-import" of Manufacturing

Our “re-import” strategy is more than just exporting and importing products.

It is a highly strategic cycle: We bring advanced U.S. technology to Japan, refine it with over 75 years of Japanese manufacturing expertise and rigorous quality standards, and then return it to the U.S. market as a comprehensive business model.

The core of this strategy lies in two key technologies:

  • Digital Production Technology:
We use AI and IoT to fully automate and optimize our manufacturing lines.
  • Environmental Material Technology:
We use “Green Carbon Steel™ & Blue Carbon Steel™” to significantly reduce carbon emissions throughout the supply chain.

These technologies, proven in Japan, are then implemented in the U.S. as a horizontally specialized supply chain. Unlike the former Katerra’s vertical integration, this approach diversifies risk and enables efficient operations.

Through this unique business model, we provide a clear answer to the challenges facing the U.S. market, such as “reshoring manufacturing” and “strengthening supply chains.”

We aim to realize the former Katerra’s vision in a more robust and sustainable way. By combining Japanese craftsmanship with American innovation, we will contribute to economic cooperation between both countries and create the next generation of industries.

We will bring the “Build for dreams” manufacturing technologies we have cultivated in Japan to America, fostering economic cooperation between Japan and the United States and creating next-generation industries, with the aim of becoming a world-leading company.

We look forward to sharing our journey with you.
